Pupil Accidents and Illnesses
In case of an accident or illness of a pupil at school, this procedure will be followed:
- Contact the parents of the child.
- If the parents can not be reached, the emergency contact listed on the child's emergency form will be called.
- If the parents or the emergency contact can not be reached, the family doctor will be notified.
- If the parents, emergency contact, or the family doctor can not be reached, any local doctor available will be called.
- In the event none of the above can be notified, the school nurse or the building principal will authorize whatever action is in the best interest of the child.
- Parents who object to medical treatment should instruct the school as to what procedure they wish the school to follow in an emergency.
- An ill or injured child will never be sent home alone or to an empty house.
The Morris Elementary School District 54 will not assume any financial obligation resulting from securing emergency medical assistance or emergency transportation.
We strongly urge parents to provide transportation for their sick or injured child. This is the parent's responsibility. If no one can pick the child up and the child is too ill to remain at school, the school nurse may transport the child home, providing that someone is there to receive the child.
